Gulf Region

Summary: Gulf Region Rebuilding Initiative (PDF)

Through our Gulf Region Rebuilding Initiative, the five Quality-of-Life priorities that drive our Building Sustainable Communities efforts around the country have been at the forefront of our disaster recovery work as well. Together, LISC, NEF, and the Lousiana Loan Fund have invested more than $13 million that will result in almost 1,000 affordable homes in places like Gulfport, Miss. and Denham Springs, New Orleans, Sulphur, Kilona and Covington in Louisiana. We are on the ground working with community-based organizations, local housing authorities and partnerships with for-profit developers to build new homes and to spur economic development, support new child care and health care facilities and help restore the critical community infrastructure that is desperately needed in many areas. There is much still to be done, even five years after Katrina, Rita and Wilma wrought their destruction. And LISC is there, helping lead, organize and finance the projects that are transforming flood-ravaged, wind-damaged neighborhoods into healthy, sustainable communities.
