CDC's | Non-Profit Developers | Advocacy Organizations
The majority of LISC’s community development funding is
provided to CDCs in Greater Boston (i.e. within Route 128). Several
CDCs
outside of our service area also receive funding through special
initiatives. LISC
currently supports CDCs and their projects in Boston,
Brockton,
Cambridge,
Chelsea,
Fitchburg/Leominster,
Holyoke,
Lawrence,
Lowell,
Salem,
Somerville and
Waltham.

Criteria for Funding non-CDCs
LISC sees community development corporations (CDCs) as its principal partners and constituents at the neighborhood level. LISC expects that most of its funding and financing will be provided to CDCs. However, LISC is prepared to support projects and programs sponsored by other non-profit organizations, which contribute to neighborhood preservation and renewal. The LISC staff will always confer with a local CDC within whose boundaries such a project may exist. LISC will also evaluate the sponsoring organization’s commitment to principles of community, customer and client involvement by reviewing the following factors:
- Presence of consumer representatives (as sponsor defines “consumer”) on
governing Board or organizational committees;
- Presence of residents of housing
developed by the organization on Board or committees;
- Presence on Board or
committees of residents of neighborhoods where other projects have been
developed by the organization;
- Formal process of involving project residents
in project management decisions;
- Evidence of community process, discussions
around proposed project;
- Project endorsement by other neighborhood
organizations;
- Project endorsement by elected officials representing neighborhood of proposed project.
Terms of these investments are negotiated for each project, depending on the needs of the project and the availability of capital.
