Housing Connections, is LISC’s technical assistance program to help local housing organizations to increase the supply of affordable housing in Connecticut’s rural and suburban communities. Housing Connections was formed with the leadership and support of the Connecticut Housing Finance Authority. The Connecticut Housing Coalition is LISC’s partner in the program.
Through Housing Connections, LISC provides technical assistance to help local housing organizations form, build support, plan for housing and carry out development. Local housing groups require guidance in documenting housing needs, developing plans, navigating regulatory processes, identifying sites and development partners and participating in the development process.
With support from Housing Connections, many towns that previously did not embrace affordable housing has been successful in generating support for new development and launching new affordable housing development.
Since the Housing Connections program began in 2007, LISC has provided technical assistance to organizations in 68 towns. With the support of the program, 517 housing units have been completed and 597 are currently under development.
