Public Policy


LISC also works to strengthen the public policy environment that supports the community development industry in Connecticut. Connecticut Statewide LISC has been very active in advocating for increased resources and better programs to promote strong community development. At the state level, LISC has focused on expanding capital financing for housing and community development.


Increasingly, communities are realizing that housing and community development can greatly enhance both their economic vitality and quality of life.  However, this work often needs the support of public programs and resources.


As a leader in community development, LISC works to strengthen the public policy environment to promote community development across Connecticut.  Connecticut Statewide LISC has been very active in advocating for increased resources and better programs to promote strong community development. At the state level, LISC has focused on capital financing for housing and community development.


LISC has been a leader in the
development and implementation of the
Connecticut Historic Homes Tax Credit
to promote urban homeownership
and  historic preservation.



On the Federal level, the Connecticut programs have helped to advocate for increased Federal Low Income Housing Tax Credits, New Markets Tax Credits, and a new homeownership tax credit.

LISC also works directly with federal, state and local agencies to facilitate positive relationships with CDCs. Through its advocacy work, LISC also participates in several coalitions of organizations with a common community development agenda (see Partners).
