With help from LISC, Kansas City summer program gets quick results

Greater Kansas City LISC provides much-needed funding to the Upper Room, a summer program that provides learning opportunities for kids.
Summary
Upper Room, a Kansas City summer program, provides children with learning opportunities during the summer months. Instead of playing with friends or watching TV, kids are working to improve and excel in academic areas such as reading and math.
Jerry McEvoy, Executive Director of Upper Room, was concerned that like many summer programs across the country, Upper Room would have difficulty getting funding. But with a $2.5 million donation from Greater Kansas City LISC, the success of this program was made possible.
"Traditional funding has been difficult to come by, so we provided the dollars to pay for teachers and outside activities during the summer program, so we provided the funding for it," John Wood with Greater KC LISC said.
"To see the kids' faces light up when they achieve 100 percent, that is reward enough," Wood said.
