Local leaders and non-profits will gather in Price Hill Tuesday to officially launch four new centers aimed at helping low-income families become more financially stable.

The Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) of Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky is among 10 agencies nationally to be awarded $4.2 million from the Social Innovation Fund, a nation-wide federal grant program.

The non-profit will receive $500,000 a year for three years to help jump start four local Financial Opportunity Centers. Each center will help individuals and families with job training, finding employment, financial coaching and accessing other local resources.

“This model has been tested across the country, and it works,” said Kathy Schwab, Executive Director of LISC Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. “The centers enhance the economic stability of the neighborhoods they serve because they improve the quality of life for the people who live and work there. When families have better jobs, less debt, improved financial literacy and a plan for the future, they are more rooted to their community, have more disposable income to spend at local merchants, and put their kids in a better position to succeed at school.”Continued[+]...
