LISC Honors 25 Community Developers Nationwide for Their Contributions to Neighborhood Revitalization

Veteran activists receive Mike Sviridoff Leadership Awards at LISC's 25th anniversary celebration
Washington, DC - Twenty-five directors of nonprofit community organizations from Maine to California who played vital roles in revitalizing their neighborhoods were honored today in a Washington, DC ceremony as being among the nation's most effective community developers.
The 25 men and women received Mike Sviridoff Leadership Awards, bestowed by Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) on those who, through their determination and creativity, have made their neighborhoods better and stronger. The awards, named after LISC's first president, were presented during LISC's 25th anniversary celebration at the Ronald Reagan Center in Washington, DC. LISC is the nation's leading community development support organization.
"These award winners have clearly used their days to make good things happen in the community and for the people around them," said Michael Rubinger, LISC's president and CEO. "Their impact on our work and for so many other community development partners is enduring, indelible, and inspiring."
The awardees are: Alan Arthur, Charles D. Bannerman (posthumously), Lourna Bourg, Bishop Arthur M. Brazier, Genevieve Brooks, Rev. Dr. Calvin O. Butts, III, James F. Capraro, Peter Carey, Gordon Chin, The Rev. Jim Dickerson, Sister Diane Donoghue, Pete C. Garcia, R. Charles Gatson, Mossik Hacobian, Jorge N. Hernández (posthumously), The Rev. Monsignor William J. Linder, Arabella Martinez, John Mealey, Ronald L. Phillips, Jerry Rickett, Hipalito Roldan, Sister Mary Scullion, Lloyd D. Smith (posthumously), T.K. Somanath and Juanita Tate (posthumously).
