Profile:

Since 1981, Boston LISC has been providing funding, financing and technical assistance to Community Development Corporations (CDCs), nonprofit developers, and policy & advocacy organizations in Greater Boston. LISC has assisted Greater Boston CDCs in developing all manner of rental housing as well as assist other efforts to preserve expiring use projects. But Boston CDCs understand that their work in developing affordable housing is incomplete without addressing gaps in economic opportunity and economic vitality of their communities. Community economic development attracts well-paying jobs and business establishments that serve local residents’ consumer and service needs; supports small businesses that are a part of the community; and removes blight and deterioration in neighborhood business districts. Boston LISC strongly believes that community development corporations are critical institutions for neighborhood preservation and renewal. It is not just the individual housing development or retail development project that builds a community, but also the capacity of the community developer to address a wide range of community issues and enable a comprehensive approach to the revitalization of a community.
