Profile:
Philadelphia LISC is dedicated to improving whole neighborhoods in Philadelphia by supporting community development corporations (CDCs) with funding, technical assistance, and advocacy. Philadelphia LISC's goal is to provide CDCs with the supports that they need to revitalize neighborhoods. Some examples of how LISC supports CDCs are as follows:
- We pool locally and nationally generated funding and provide this funding to CDCs in lower-income neighborhoods.
- We assist nonprofit community developers carry out real estate development by devising appropriate packages of grants, loans, and tax credits to meet each project's needs.
- We help identify other lenders and offer technical assistance and guidance to CDCs through every phase of the real estate development process.
- We invest in higher-risk, early stage projects. Philadelphia LISC's vital early stage funding then serves as a catalyst for later stage investment by other lenders.
- We work in concert with other organizations to advocate for the public policy changes required to bring and sustain real changes to neighborhoods.
