Pittsburgh Partnership for Neighborhood Development (PPND)
LISC's partner in Southwestern Pennsylvania

PPND supports the revitalization of the Pittsburgh region's distressed neighborhoods into desirable and diverse communities by raising funds and making strategic investments in community development/improvement organizations.
At PPND, we believe every neighborhood has the potential to be a good place to live, work, raise families and play. Whatever the condition of a neighborhood’s skyline, streets or storefronts, fruitful improvements can be made through smart planning, hard work and investment. Established in 1983 as a funding collaborative to support community development efforts, PPND was one of the first of its kind in the country.
Today, over two decades later, PPND celebrates 25 years of investing in Pittsburgh’s cherished neighborhoods. Our approach to transformation begins with a community’s existing assets, its meaningful places, its spirited people and its opportunities to participate in the regional economy. PPND not only provides communities with capital through its grant and lending programs but also assists with the development of a vision, sound planning and realizable implementation strategies. As a nurturer of community health and prosperity, PPND plays a vital role in making Pittsburgh’s neighborhoods cleaner, safer, stronger and desirable.
Achievements by the Numbers:
Since its inception, PPND has invested more than $50 million in Southwestern Pennsylvania communities. In 2008, PPND’s first year as a LISC affiliate, PPND deployed $2.3M into Pittsburgh area neighborhoods largely through investments in community development corporations who are directly involved in their neighborhood revitalization efforts. PPND’s 2008 investments yielded the following results:
- 121 housing units developed directly by PPND supported CDCs;
- 364 housing units developed through the partnering of a PPND supported CDC and a private developer;
- 10,000 Ft² of commercial space developed directly by PPND supported CDCs;
- 256,400 Ft² of commercial space developed through the partnering of a PPND supported CDC and a private developer.
