Michael Rubinger on national panel speaks on community economic renewal

Proceedings of The Hamilton Project forum "Hard Times, Solid Policies to Renew American Communities" held at the Park Hyatt Hotel in Washington D.C., October 13, 2010.


On Thursday, October 13, 2010, Michael Rubinger, President and CEO of LISC, participated on panel of experts focused on policy solutions for renewing American communities. Sponsored by the Brookings Institution and The Hamilton Project, the forum released a strategy paper and three new proposals that provide a range of options for helping communities and workers recover from recent economic shocks.

Mr. Rubinger appeared on the panel which included The Honorable Ashley Swearengin, Mayor of Fresno, Calif.; The Honorable Stephen Goldsmith, Deputy Mayor of New York City; Joel Mastervich, President & CEO of V&M Star; and moderated by Robert E. Rubin, former U.S. Treasury Secretary. These leaders provided their perspectives on the tools necessary for recovery. The Honorable Jennifer Granholm, Governor or Michigan, closed the forum with a keynote address.

Mr. Rubinger described LISC’s efforts over the past 30 years to revitalize communities and stated that LISC’s focus today is to build communities that are viable for the long-term and attractive to all residents.
