Event Description

December 5, 2007
Issues of youth violence and increased gang activity have become a challenge for many communities across the country. Youth service providers have made strides in understanding warring gangs and connecting youth to effective social services that fill the gap of unmet needs. Although successful, these strategies have had limited impact. Neighborhoods are still plagued by rising crime rates among youth and a continued concern around juvenile arrests and incarceration. Our webcast experts will discuss their innovative strategies that go beyond traditional programming as they partnered with the community to reduce crime in the inner cities of Providence, Rhode Island and Los Angeles, California.

This webcast discussion highlights the successful strategies of two community organizations who have led collaborations that effectively address issues of gang and street violence among youth. Experts discuss their role in crafting policies, practices and partnerships with law enforcement, the public school system and additional community non-profits. By the end of this discussion, participants will learn about the planning and design of programming, implementation of strategies, and lessons learned from two organizations that have been recognized and awarded for their successful prevention and intervention work with youth.
