In 1997, LISC's Community Investment Collaborative for Kids (CICK) co-sponsored a national conference with the National Economic Development and Law Center to explore strategies for using community development resources to strengthen and expand the family child care industry. The conference proceedings will benefit community development corporations and others seeking a more active role in promoting quality home-based, family child care in low-income neighborhoods. The publication includes an examination of child care as a neighborhood economic development strategy, focusing on the creation of networks of support for family child care providers; the legal and management issues facing property owners or building managers who seek to promote family child care businesses in their housing units; and design, development or improvement of housing for family child care use.
