LISC strengthens Greater Newark's local community development organizations by providing funding, technical assistance, and training. Through this support Greater Newark LISC's core objective is to strengthen the capacity of our local community development partners so that they can implement impactful programs that create vibrant and healthy neighborhoods.
In addition, we support the strengthening the civic infrastructure of our communities through specific resident leadership training and engagement programs that encourages and empowers Newarkers to become active change agents in their own neighborhoods.
Instituted in 2016, the NRLA is a six month training program that focuses on building and enhancing the leadership skills of residents and resident leaders so that they can be active & effective participants in improving the quality of life in their community. The program consists of a series of monthly workshops completed over a six month period.
Resident participants are organized in neighborhood teams that also work together on developing a community improvement project which they will implement at the end of the training series. Supported with technical assistance from a dedicated community coach, neighborhood teams have the opportunity to qualify for a mini-grant to support the implementation of their community improvement projects.
