2011 Achievements
HOUSING DEVELOPMENT In 2011 LISC:
- Supported Neighborhood Stabilization Program across the city of Cincinnati and in Covington through lending, technical assistance and advocacy.
- Promoted $1.4 million in lending for neighborhood revitalization.
- Aided with foreclose prevention.
- Coordinated policy work preventing bank walk-aways.
- Provided energy-efficiency training in Avondale.
- Provided $270,000 of capacity to CDCs in in Walnut Hills, Avondale, Madisonville, Covington, Price Hill, and OTR.
- Ironworks Building - Invested in 63 units of supportive housing for Homeless Veterans.
FAMILY INCOME In 2011 LISC:
- Through a grant from the Social Innovation Fund, LISC invested $515,000 in four Financial Opportunity Centers at Brighton Center, Cincinnati Works, Santa Maria Community Services and the Urban League of Greater Cincinnati to help low- and moderate-income families improve their net income, net worth, and credit.
- AmeriCorps members at all four sites providing services to help families reach financial stability.
- Received commitment for a second year of funding through the Social Innovation Fund.
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT In 2011 LISC:
- Supported commercial corridor revitalization in Avondale, Price Hill and Covington.
- Provided grant funding for retail fit-out at Burnet Place.
- Provided planning grants and advocacy for Price Hill’s Incline District.
- Worked with Covington on HUD Challenge grant funding for their Center City Action Plan.
- Assisted with Plan Cincinnati and the MSD Communities of the Future.
- Advanced support for a Hamilton County land bank.
- Supported Catalytic Development Fund of Northern Kentucky.
- Assisted Cornerstone in expanding their unique “Renter Equity” ™ Program into their latest 17-unit mixed-use residential project, leveraging a $200,000 energy efficiency grant.
EDUCATION & YOUTH In 2011 LISC:
- Awarded recreation-field grants, in conjunction with the NFL Grassroots Program, to Midway School and Woodward High School.
- Supported beautification project with the Avondale Youth Council and ArtWorks that included ArtWorks’ first mural in Avondale.
- Supported The Hirsch Center IMAX – a mobile digital theater for the Avondale community.
- Provided Children's Creative Corner (CCC) assistance in Over-the-Rhine.
- Provided AmeriCorps members at the International Welcome Center at Roberts Paideia School and at Mill Creek Restoration Project to link public schools with resources.
