About Us
Founded in 1980, today, LISC is one of the country’s most respected not-for-profit community development facilitators. On a national basis, LISC operates as an intermediary through which private grants, loans, and redevelopment expertise are channeled to CDCs which help resident-led, community-based development organizations transform distressed communities and neighborhoods into healthy ones. By providing capital, technical expertise, training and information, LISC supports the development of local leadership and the creation of affordable housing, commercial, industrial and community facilities, business and jobs. To date, National LISC’s success in developing non-traditional funding sources has generated in excess of $3 billion from 2,200 corporations, foundations and investors. These funds have garnered an additional $3.5 billion in matching funds, which means every LISC dollar packs more than twice the redevelopment punch. While deriving financial strength and credibility from the national network, Greater Miami LISC works through its local office on a community basis, partnering with CDCs to revive urban neighborhoods previously thought to be unsalvageable. The result is that empty lots, abandoned storefronts, untapped talent and disfranchised residents become affordable housing, successful businesses, safe streets, employed residents and involved citizens. |
