Current Production Progress

The last two years have proved to be exciting in terms of CDC production. During this period, construction activity has been in full force in East Little Havana and other distressed communities in Miami-Dade County. Overtown also witnessed the completion of several housing projects.

Greater Miami LISC's five-year production goals are to build 500 units for homeownership, 750 units of rental housing and 150,000 square feet of commercial space by 2005. If CDC production continues at the current pace, it is estimated that LISC and its partner CDCs will be able to meet their real estate development goals on schedule.

Below is a description of the projects which the 15 LISC supported CDCs completed in 2002 and 2003, as well as those projects which are currently in progress:

Completed in 2002

BAME completed the Miami River Park Apartments, a multifamily apartment building with 211 rental units. It also completed 12 units of supportive rental housing.

Carrfour finished the Carrfour Villa Aurora, a mixed-use 46 bed transitional housing facility for the homeless and hard-to-house.

Centro Campesino completed construction on 21 detached single family homes for first time homebuyers.

Miami Beach CDC accomplished several housing projects, including 20 units of condos for first time homebuyers, 16 rehabbed rental units for families and 18 units of supportive housing. The CDC also completed a 10,000 sq ft facility for office and community use.

Completed To Date in 2003

Carrfour made available an additional 126 units of supportive rental housing.

Little Haiti Housing Association acquired and rehabbed an 11,000 sq ft facility to be used for office space and community activities.

Opa-Locka CDC completed renovation on the historic Opa-Locka Train Station, a 3,300 sq ft commercial facility.  The CDC also completed development on two single family units for homeownership.

Projects Currently In Progress

BAME has a project for 41 single family detached homes currently under construction in Overtown. This project is expected to reach completion in 2004.

The Black Archives is currently undertaking the expansion of the Lyric Theater. The expansion is a 15,000 sq ft state-of-the-art cultural facility. Construction is scheduled to be completed in 2004.

Centro Campesino is building 40 units of detached single family housing for first time home buyers and an 11,655 sq ft community center with office space.

East Little Havana CDC is expected to finish construction on the Latin Quarters Specialty Center by the end of 2003. This is a mixed-use project with 45 condo units and 15,000 sq ft of commercial/retail space.

Jubilee CDC is working in East Little Havana. Their project, Jubilee Villas, will offer 30 condos for homeownership.

Miami Beach CDC is developing 20 units of condos for first time homebuyers in scattered sites. They are also rehabilitating a 29 unit rental apartment.

Opa-Locka CDC is currently building a two-story   complex with 216 rental units. The CDC is also developing five single family homes for homeownership.

West Perrine CDC is expected to complete 30 homeownership units in South Dade by the end of 2003.

In total, the projects that are under construction represent 211 homeownership units, 245 rental housing units and 41, 655 sq ft of commercial space. The next few years promise to be bustling in development.
