LISC AmeriCorps Offers Leadership Opportunities For First Time In Kansas City

11.27.2018

Greater Kansas City LISC is using a new strategy in 2019 to help residents break the cycle of poverty.

For the first time, the LISC AmeriCorps program will be in Kansas City. As part of this historic initiative, three new AmeriCorps members will train residents and connect them to living-wage jobs as well as assess and establish a comprehensive financial literacy referral system for adult learners.

LISC AmeriCorps goes to great lengths to recruit members from the communities where they are assigned to work.

We believe Kansas City is full of bright, motivated individuals who are committed to making transformative differences in our community. We are looking forward to training a talented pool of social innovators to join us in this exciting pilot program that will lay the foundation for positive results in our community for years to come.
— Stephen Samuels, Greater Kansas City LISC Executive Director

LISC has operated a national AmeriCorps program for more than two decades, having placed more than 3,000 members in community-focused initiatives and programs across the country. Many of those members have gone on to long careers working with nonprofits, social services agencies and government.

We are recruiting dynamic crusaders for this unique leadership opportunity through December, with selected members starting service in January 2019. Members receive a stipend for service and an education award.
