First Energy Star Rated Townhomes in KCK
KANSAS CITY, KS (August 1, 2008) - City Vision Ministries, NeighborhoodsNOW lead agency for Downtown, KCK, unveiled
the first townhomes in the metro Kansas City area to be Energy Star® rated, called the 5th Street East Townhomes, at a
ribbon cutting and grand opening event today at 5th Street and Armstrong, Kansas City, Kan. The 5th Street East Townhomes
also are the first of 60 new townhomes and condos to be developed by City Vision in the Strawberry Hill neighborhood over the
next few years.
Mayor Joe Reardon and other officials attended the ribbon cutting event as well as toured the new single-family townhomes.
“We are very proud of the work that City Vision has done on Strawberry Hill,” said Carole Diehl, president of the Strawberry Hill Neighborhood Association. “This is an exciting time for our community. Beautiful new lofts and townhomes all add to the charm of Strawberry Hill.”
As the first townhomes in the metro Kansas City area to be Energy Star® rated, the single-family townhomes meet strict energy efficiency guidelines set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Hathmore Technologies, LLC, an independent professional organization, is conducting the ratings tests.
The new three-bedroom, 2 ½ bath townhomes feature double garages, upgraded kitchens and interiors, and offer downtown skyline views. The location is within minutes of the Sprint Center and many other downtown attractions in Kansas and Missouri. A total of five homes are available with purchase prices starting at $215,000.
The project is financed by Gardner National Bank, the Unified Government of Wyandotte County, and the Kansas City Board of Public Utilities. The architect is Select Design and Construction Group, and the builder is ISHworks. |

The 5th Street East Townhomes are part of a growing neighborhood revival in and around the historic Strawberry Hill community that includes new cafes, shops, artist studios and residential redevelopment. Spearheaded by several redevelopment groups including the Downtown Shareholders and Greater Kansas City LISC, recent redevelopment efforts include new commercial and retail businesses, several new housing initiatives as well as new historic street lighting, sidewalks and landscaping along 5th Street.
Strawberry Hill is a NeighborhoodsNOW designated area, which benefits from additional attention. A revitalization program of Greater Kansas City LISC, NeighborhoodsNOW transforms neighborhoods into sustainable communities where people want to live and work. “We applaud City Vision Ministries for their foresight. The 5th Street East Townhomes are an excellent example of creating sustainable communities that improve residents’ economic condition and net worth,” said Julie Porter, Greater Kansas City LISC Executive Director, which provided operational support during the project.
