How
NeighborhoodsNOW Works
The program focuses
on the needs of targeted urban-core neighborhoods
over the course of three years. Employing community organizing strategies,
LISC engages residents to complete a vision for their neighborhood
– a “Quality of Life Plan.” Then, quite simply, Greater Kansas City LISC helps
make the Quality of Life Plans a reality. Rebuilding and improvements
may include:
- new and
rehab housing and minor home repair programs designed to improve
property values;
- infrastructure
improvements such as street lighting, green space development
and street repair;
- safety and
crime reduction programs through a partnership with local police
departments;
- the addition
of residential support services, such as after-school activities,
community centers, health care and transportation; and
- leadership
programs to help residents organize and identify strategies to
solve neighborhood needs.
Because the very nature of community development is often opportunity-based, the NeighborhoodsNOW
campaign may be refined along the way to deliver
even greater impact.
A
$23 Million Investment Over Three Years
NeighborhoodsNOW funding is projected at $23.1 million over three
years. Funds for operations, grants
and loans will come from a combination
of private and public sources.
All local
funding is matched by National LISC through a
combination of low cost loans and grant funds -- providing local
funders with an unparalleled opportunity to maximize their investment.
