Neighbors Create
Quality of Life Plans
Successful neighborhood revitalization takes more than a bricks and mortar approach.
NeighborhoodsNOW employs community organizing strategies to assist residents and neighborhood stakeholders in their efforts to stabilize, and over time, sustain their neighborhoods.
Residents and stakeholders were guided through a structured planning process to create a vision for their neighborhood – a “Quality of Life Plan” – that defines the critical needs and offers solutions. Plans outline strategies, budgets and a timeline to implement improvements.
The initial Quality of Life Planning process began in April 2006 and was completed in early 2007. The residents and Greater Kansas City LISC have learned much since then and, with many successes under our belt and challenges remaining, a Community Engagement Summit was held in April 2009 to revisit the original, Quality of Life Plans. Since the Summit, neighborhood residents and stakeholders have been fine-tuning their plans to reflect current priorities and economic conditions.
An overview of the Phase II Quality of Life Planning process, the initial Phase I Plans and the 2009 updated Phase II Plans (posted as they are completed) are available below in PDF format.

As these plans are living documents, they are subject to change as needs and opportunities arise. The full Quality of Life Plan is owned by the neighborhood and Greater Kansas City LISC, and will be used as a guide for implementation. Additional partners may need to be engaged to complete certain aspects of the plans. |
