What We Do

National LISC established the Family Income and Wealth Building program in 2004 as part of its Building Sustainable Communities strategy, and supports Financial Opportunity Centers (FOC) and Bridges to Career Opportunities (BCO) Centers across the country.

Los Angeles LISC has identified itself as a leader in financial capability and provides training and knowledge sharing opportunities throughout the LA market. Los Angeles LISC oversees the four FOCs in Los Angeles and frequently connects with the National LISC team on developing trainings and opportunities for their FOC implementation partners and the FOC Community of Practice. The four FOCs in Los Angeles are implemented by: Central City Neighborhood Partners, Coalition for Responsible Community Development, Mexican American Opportunity Foundation, and Youth Policy Institute.

The LISC network of Financial Opportunity Centers (FOCs) includes over 80 centers in 30 cities. There are currently two Los Angeles FOCs that launched in September 2015 that are operated by Coalition for Responsible Community Development and Youth Policy Institute.

Financial Opportunity Centers intentionally integrate 3 services:

  • Employment Placement: one-on-one employment counseling, job readiness/job placement, access to education/training
  • Income Supports: food stamps, housing & energy subsidies, Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)
  • Financial Coaching: pull/review credit report, establish budget & balances, connect to mainstream financial products
