Youth Development

 

 

Improve Residents’ Access to Quality Learning and Youth Development Resources

 

Schools are a defining factor in any community’s ability to improve and thrive.  Building on its work with charter school facilities, LISC has expanded its focus, helping organizations work with school districts, parent-teacher groups, and youth development and after-school programs in an effort to transform local education into a hallmark of community improvement.

 

Here is a sample of projects done under this initiative during the previous two years.

 

 

 

Project Name: Boys and Girls Club

Non-Profit Partner: Douglass -Community Association

-1,300 square feet after school & weekend drop-in center for the youth living in the Northside neighborhood.

    Project Year: 2008

    Project Location: Kalamazoo, MI

    Non-Profit Partner: Minority Business Alliance

    -75 youth participated in entrepreneurial training.

Project Location: Statewide

Non-Profit Partner: MSHDA

-LISC and MSHDA has partnered to provide AmeriCorps members for each of the 7 Cities of Promise to help with the Safe Routes to School program.
