Old Town / Lansing

Old Town is a prime example of successful revitalization and a model to inspire other neighborhoods in economic decline. Embracing the largest collection of historic commercial buildings in the Greater Lansing area, Old Town is a symbol of heritage and has become a commercial and tourist destination as well as an inviting urban neighborhood.

In 1996, Old Town was one of six sites selected to participate in the NMSI demonstration project with LISC.  Since then, Old Town has experienced over $22 million in private investment and over $8 million in public investment.  Curently there is less than a 10% vacancy rate in area commercial buildings.  Significant changes have made an extraordinary visible impact on Old Town, including the development of market rate condominium townhouses, loft apartments, streetscape improvements and continual facade restorations.
