Financial Opportunity Centers

Financial Opportunity Centers are career and personal financial service centers that focus on increasing the financial bottom line for low-to-moderate income individuals. LISC’s innovative approach of integrated employment services coupled with financial education and coaching services offers low-income families the support they need to grow their assets and build toward a more prosperous future.

FOCs provide families with services across three areas:

  • Employment placement and career improvement
  • Financial education and coaching
  • Public benefits access

These core services are integrated together and offer a “one stop shop” for building income and wealth. The model for these centers was developed by the Annie E. Casey Foundation.

Since launching in Chicago in 2005, LISC's network has expanded to over 60 FOCs in 14 regions. Currently, LISC Milwaukee has two centers hosted by Riverworks Economic Development Corporation serving residents in the Harambee neighborhood; and Journey House, serving South Side residents in Clarke Square.
