LISC National
What We Do

Project Financing

The Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) is one of the largest New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) allocatees in the country, with $993 million in NMTC investment authority. We've managed LISC's NMTC program since the creation of the program, closing more than $900 million in NMTC allocation for 114 projects across the country. We work closely with LISC's 30 program offices and the national Rural LISC program to identify high-impact projects that have community support, will create economic and social benefits, and are part of neighborhood, city, or regional economic plans. We prioritize projects that will create quality jobs with living wages and benefits accessible to low-income individuals.

LISC's NMTC financing helped make CityLink Center in Cincinnati, OH possible.

LISC works in low-income communities that face many challenges: high poverty and unemployment rates, low median incomes, depressed real estate markets, and decades of disinvestment. We use our NMTC allocation to fill financing gaps in projects that meet critical local needs: creating quality jobs accessible to residents in areas of high unemployment, bringing businesses to neighborhoods with few retail options, providing affordable healthcare in medically underserved areas, building grocery stores in food deserts, and creating community facilities for recreation, education, and social services.

In 2016, LISC provided
$41.4 million
in NMTC allocation to projects across the country.
