Senior Housing Organizer
The Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation (CHLDC) is a not-for-profit community development organization dedicated to neighborhood revitalization through housing preservation, economic development, organizing and the education and service of youth and their families. CHLDC serves 8,000 residents of its low and moderate, predominately Latino community every year. Our housing department provides individual landlord/tenant housing counseling, homeownership preparation and education, tenant organizing and mortgage foreclosure prevention services to 1,200 renters and small homeowners annually. Our agency seeks a dynamic individual to head its housing organizing efforts. The Senior Housing Organizer will be responsible for:
- Hiring, training, supervising and evaluating housing organizers
- Assisting organizers with member recruitment and engagement, leadership development and campaign development;
- Expanding and deepening CHLDC’s tenant organizing work beyond its traditional community, building an area-wide tenants rights movement/coalition and connecting members to city-wide affordable housing campaigns;
- Organizing a new Cypress Hills Homeowners Association to tackle injustices related to predatory lending, subprime foreclosure crisis, unfair water billing policies, foreclosure rescue scams, one-stop shops, etc.;
- Supporting CHLDC’s work as part of a city-wide coalition of low income immigrant communities fighting for permanent affordability of low income housing, preservation of publicly-subsidized housing, reform of the rent regulation laws, etc.;

- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- MS W or related degree + 2 years community organizing experience or Bachelor’s degree + 5 years community organizing experience
- Bilingual English-Spanish required
- Availability to work evenings and weekends
Salary Range
$40,000 - $45,000 depending on experience + excellent benefits package
