LISC Phoenix’s “Impact 2008-2018”

LISC Phoenix has spent 10 years investing in five commercial corridors in Mesa, Tempe and Phoenix, Arizona, including support to local non-profit organizations and small businesses. “Impact 2008-2018” examines the effects of these investments and the specific interventions used in each.

The report’s authors found that the overall population increased in four neighborhoods, largely due to the construction of new affordable housing and that all five neighborhoods saw significant upticks in buying power-– a leading indicator that residents have resources available to spend on retail. Among other lessons, practitioners can learn how targeted investments in business districts can stabilize neighborhoods in the midst of a significant public transit expansion.
