A Bold and Big Heart for DC

With sadness we announce the passing of Oramenta Newsome, vice president and executive director of LISC's DC office. She was an unwavering and passionate champion for the residents of underinvested neighborhoods of Washington, DC and for the city she loved. We pledge to continue her life’s work.

It is with unspeakable sadness that I’m writing to tell you of the death of Oramenta Newsome, vice president and executive director of LISC DC, who passed away earlier today after a brief illness.

This is a loss for her family and friends, for LISC and for Washington, D.C. Oramenta’s uncommon wisdom, big heart and bold vision moved people and made good things happen. Over her nearly 23 years with LISC, she changed lives and transformed communities in the city she loved so much.

In the days to come, we’ll be talking much more about Oramenta and her legacy. For now, we send our love and prayers to her family and loved ones. We promise that we will continue her life’s work, doing our best to live up to the high bar she set for compassion and excellence, every day.
