About Us

The Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) is a partner, an advisor, a funder, and an advocate. We work directly with community development corporations to revive and transform struggling neighborhoods through investing in housing, supporting local commercial development, aiding in the building of community spaces, and generally pursuing  strategies of sustainable economic growth. We firmly believe that effective and sustainable development happens when communities are its agents as well as its beneficiaries, and we exist to make this a reality.

Philadelphia LISC is one of the largest of LISC’s local programs. Since our founding in 1981 we have contributed to the proliferation, expansion, and strengthening of community development corporations (CDCs) in a wide variety of Philadelphia neighborhoods. Our involvement has made possible the development of thousands of units of housing, the construction of shopping centers and community facilities, the revitalization of commercial corridors, and a general growth in the capacity of Philadelphia’s CDCs.
