Housing Development
The development of rental and for-sale housing is a core activity for
Philadelphia LISC. for years we have been working with community groups to
develop attractive, quality housing, that contributes to the conprehensive
revitalization of its neighborhood. There is no attribute of a community that
affects it appearance and pride of place as much as its housing, and their are
few assets that contribute so directly to the meeting of basic human needs.
LISC has the national resources to provide significant funding for new
construction and the rehabilitation of existing structures. We aim for impact,
concentrating our investments together as much as possible, in order to
significantly change the look and feel of the target area. In this way, we are
able to maximize the effect on the residents' quality of life, often building
attractive neighborhoods where before there had been nothing but vacant land and
abandoned buildings. Perhaps just as importantly, such geographic focus builds
property values, creating wealth for local homeowners, who often have no savings
other than their investment in their homes.
