NFL Grassroots
Philadelphia LISC, the Philadelphia Eagles, the National Football League, and the School District of Philadelphia have recently come together in a partnership that will redevelop the Benjamin Johnston Supersite in Northwest Philadelphia into a modern football facility for student and community use. The grant, provided by the NFL through LISC, will contribute $200,000 to the project. This innovative public-nonprofit-private partnership will have the
ability to make a significant difference in its neighborhood, providing recreational amenities that are currently unavailable.

LISC has a strong national relationship with the National Football League, with the purpose of developing football fields in urban areas to serve people in struggling communities. Philadelphia LISC has taken advantage of this progam in the past, and is currently working with the Philadelphia School District to identify additional opportunities to access this progam .
The lack of recreational
opportunities and community space is a
critical problem that people in Philadelphia's communities face. By
building sports fields to which residents have
access, the
partners to this venture will be improving the quality of life for
these Philadelphians in a concrete and tangible way. Many schools in
Philadelphia, especially in low-income areas, do not currently have
access to football facilities, and many that do play on fields that are
in
disrepair. Likewise, many communities throughout the City have no
open space for
their children, no football fields run by recreation
centers, and few public
community assets. Quality fields and
facilities, on the other hand, can be important community assets, centers of
community life, and create neighborhood pride in young and old alike.
