Supermarket Development

LISC's largest commercial undertakings in Philadelphia have been large supermarkets in underserved minority neighborhoods. While in many middle-class and suburban areas supermarkets are an essential part of daily life, there are a great many neighborhoods in Philadelphia where convenient access to a wide variety of fresh vegetables and healthy foods simply does not exist. Instead, residents are forced to rely on corner stores and convenience stores that, in addition to being expensive, often carry little produce and large amounts of processed foods.

By providing technical assistance and investments to supermarket developments, therefore, LISC is not only bringing convenience, jobs, and development to our neighborhoods. We are also, in a very real way, making the communities healthier places to live.
