Sustainable Home Ownership Coalition

The Sustainable Home Ownership (SHO) Initiative is a LISC Phoenix-led coalition of 13 nonprofit community development organizations (CDCs) and community organizations administered by Housing Our Communities, Inc. (HOC). The SHO Initiative is a consumer-oriented approach to most effectively and efficiently provide sustainable affordable homeownership opportunities for low- to moderate-income homebuyers and mitigate the effect of the foreclosure crisis on neighborhoods. This will be achieve in part because the Coalition employs a long-term strategy to promote the nonprofit sector and increase capacity of existing nonprofits; creates a single-source solution for jurisdictions and REO servicers and buyers; and streamlines and standardizes program activities, such as counseling, rehabilitation and reporting.

The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) is the nations largest community organization of low- and moderate-income families, with over 150,000 member families organized in 700 neighborhood chapters in 51 cities across the country. Since 1970, ACORN has taken action and won victories on issues of concern to ACORN members. Priorities include: better housing for first time homebuyers and tenants, living wages for low-wage workers, more investment in our communities from banks and governments, and better public schools. ACORN achieves these goals by building community organizations that have the power to win changes  through direct action, negotiation, legislation, and voter participation.
