About Us
The Rhode Island Local Initiative Support Corporation (LISC) works with communities to improve the quality of civic and
family life in our state. We are a creative and financial resource for
community-based organizations that transform distressed neighborhoods into
vibrant and healthy centers of life, learning, and commerce. Through
collaboration and investment, LISC plays a vital role in the success of
revitalization projects throughout Rhode Island.
LISC believes that Community Development Corporations (CDCs) are uniquely able to address local housing and neighborhood revitalization needs. CDCs are dynamic, community-based groups that are formed to improve and rebuild their neighborhood. They bring unmatched devotion and intimate knowledge to their projects, and we believe there is no better way to stimulate change. LISC supports CDCs with training, technical assistance, funds, and strategic guidance.
Since 1991, Rhode Island LISC has invested $18.5 million in grants and loans and, through the National Equity Fund, more than $96 million in equity. These investments have helped to create 2,800 new units of affordable housing, over 250,000 square feet of commercial and community space, and new and improved child care facilities for more than 1,300 children.
