CAP Services, Inc., in Stevens Point, WI, continues to build its sustainable community program by exploring business and job training opportunities in community-supported agriculture and to determine the need for and feasibility of establishing a community land bank.

Some of CAP Services' 2010 accomplishments include:

  • Opening a new child care center in the Portage County Industrial Park.  It offers 106 child care slots for children 6 weeks to 6 years for Head Start families, Travel Guard employees (contracts with CAP for some slots) and the general public. 
  • A new Fresh Start Program in Waupaca that completed its first year of operation, resulting in the hiring of 9 AmeriCorps members, 5 of whom needed and obtained their high school diploma or equivalent. 
  • Significant expansion of the Weatherization Program with ARRA funding, providing services to nearly 500 households since July of 2009 – almost twice the production over the previous year.
  • Neighborhood Stabilization Program purchased 8 foreclosed properties, all in various stages of rehabilitation for re-sell to low- and moderate-income households. 
  • Finalizing the development and financing of a 100,000 square foot food processing center  for Intevation Food Group in Plover, WI, with the creation of 44 jobs.  It also assisted LeRoy Butler Ford in Waupaca with business loan funds to reopen the Ford dealership there.  20 jobs have been created, 10 of which were low-income at application.
