Joe Horiye has served as the San Diego
Director for the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) since 2002. Prior to LISC, Joe headed fund
development efforts for a division of San Diego State University (SDSU) and also
served as President of a non-profit public benefit company that provides
affordable housing and community development services to low and moderate-income
families. Joe is a Eureka-Waitt
Fellow and also holds the distinction of being named the Country’s very first
Mike M. Masaoka Congressional Fellow.
Joe’s other previous work experience includes serving as a Legislative Assistant for U.S. House of Representative, Norman Y. Mineta, Aide for the Greater San Diego Chamber of Commerce, and President of a university auxiliary corporation. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree and Community Economic Development Practitioner’s Certificate from SDSU and is a graduate of the Local Initiatives Support Corporation’s California Statewide Housing Development Training Institute, and LEAD San Diego.
Kerry Sheldon, Program Officer, coordinates the implementation of Neighborhoods First and oversees all loan activity. Kerry joined LISC in early 2006, bringing urban planning expertise to the office. Prior to LISC, Kerry worked as a private urban planning consultant for private firms in northern New Jersey and southern California. Kerry received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Cornell University and a Master’s of City and Regional Planning from Rutgers University. Kerry is a current member of LEAD San Diego.
Daisy Gordon Crompton, Assistant Program Officer, coordinates special projects, communications, and resource development for Neighborhoods First and other programs. A recent addition to San Diego LISC, Daisy has broad experience in international economic development, project management, and community outreach. She served as the housing and redevelopment policy advisor to City Councilmember Toni Atkins. Before that, Daisy managed the launch of 211 San Diego, the region's free hotline for community, health, and disaster information. She was a Presidential Management Fellow in Washington, D.C., and worked for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the U.S. Agency for International Development. She holds a BA from UC Berkeley and an MBA from Stanford University.
Jana L. Zawadzki, new Program Assistant oversees the Capacity Building initiative with local CDC’s primarily through HUD Section 4 and LISC AmeriCorps. Jana comes to LISC from City Heights CDC, where she worked as a LISC AmeriCorps and as a Resident Services and After School Program Coordinator. Her experience brings strategic planning, program development, and community building skills to the LISC office. Jana graduated in 2004 near the top of her class from University of California Santa Cruz with a dual BA in Community Studies and Legal Studies, with a focus on affordable housing. She looks forward to joining National LISC’s Sustainable Communities Initiative to target much needed resources to agencies working at the forefront on San Diego’s challenges.
