NFL Grassroots Program

The Grassroots Program is sponsored by the National Football League's (NFL) Youth Football
Fund, a $150 million initiative established in 1998 by the NFL and the NFL Players Association.
Through Grassroots, the NFL and LISC provide schools and nonprofit community organizations with
financing and technical assistance to improve the quality, safety and accessibility of local playfields.
To date, the Grassroots Program has awarded $12.5 million in
grants for 116 projects in over 40
cities across the country. Grants are announced and awarded annually in the
fall.
In partnership with the San Diego Chargers, San Diego LISC has brought the Grassroots Program to San Diego County and built fields with organizations including the Boys and Girls Club of Greater San Diego, STAR/PAL, Junior Seau Foundation and La Mirada Elementary School. Over the last six years, the Grassroots Program has supported the construction and renewal of playfields in the San Diego region.
