Resume & Interview Tips

As you prepare your resume, keep these things in mind:

Be brief. Keep your resume to 1-2 pages
Be honest. Don’t fudge education, experience or accomplishments. Talk about yourself in a way that is flattering and relevant to the position for which you are applying
Use active words to describe your responsibilities
Have a document that is neat, well-organized and without errors
Keep it simple. Do not use special formatting, bolding or italics
Don't include salary history, requirements or references

For the interview

Arrive early – at least 10-15 minutes before hand
Be prepared – Make sure to research the company and the position. Rehearse questions and answers with a friend
Be confident and relaxed
Be enthusiastic and positive about previous employers
Maintain eye contact with the interviewer
Bring – extra resumes, a list of references, work or writing samples if appropriate
Think about your skills, experiences and accomplishments. Highlight the ones most relevant and appropriate to the position
Dress appropriately

After the interview

End the interview on a positive note. Thank the interviewer for their time
Reiterate your interest in the position with a thank you note to each person with whom you interviewed
