The Richmond Recreation and Parks Foundation in partnership with the City of Richmond Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities will work on the renovation project together.
The fields at Blackwell and Hotchkiss Community Centers have little to no existing field equipment. The community centers are two of the busiest community centers in the city as the neighborhoods around the centers are home to the some of the city's most disadvantaged people. The installation of the equipment will transform the fields into showcase venues giving players more reasons to take pride in and enjoy games. There will also be an estimated 10% increase in football participation once the renovations are completed.
A matching grant will be made by the City's Neighborhood Parks Fund. Local civic organizations, the City of Richmond and the Washington Redskins have expressed strong support for the field improvements.
