Programs
The Southwestern Pennsylvania program operates a revolving loan fund in
Pittsburgh and the surrounding 10-county region. Non-profit,
community-based organizations engaged in real estate projects -
residential,
commercial, or community facilities - are
eligible to
apply. With the
exception of our targeted
Growth Funds, we do not
provide operating support or
project
grants.
Since 1998, we have invested over $11,063,000 in LISC funds resulting in the
creation or preservation of over 750 units of affordable housing, the
creation
of over 290,000 square feet of commercial office space, and
the capitalization
of two community development financial
institutions.
In 2002 we worked with the local consulting firm of Dewey
& Kaye, Inc. to complete an assessment of our program. We undertook a series of stakeholder interviews to help
Southwestern Pennsylvania LISC and the National LISC office determine the strategic intent of the local program for the next three to
five years. The resulting strategic plan continues the operation of
our regional loan fund, but places more emphasis upon targeting resources to specific communities as we have done with the
East End Growth Fund. The long-term goal of the Southwestern Pennsylvania LISC program will be to establish three growth
fund commmunities by 2005.
