DC LISC is a community development investor. We provide financial and organizational resources to partner nonprofit organizations working to improve the quality of life in our neighborhoods.

How We Work

Depending on the project or circumstance, we take on a number of roles including:

  • Lender: providing real estate loans for residential, commercial and community facility projects;
  • Advocate: Working on behalf of our nonprofit and community partners to help ensure they have the resources they need;
  • Facilitator: Acting as a neutral party, we bring together a number of groups to encourage collaboration, brainstorming and partnership;
  • Funder:  Providing small, strategic grants to selected nonprofit organizations for special projects or capacity building;
  • Broker: Helping parties negotiate or come to agreement;
  • Technical assistance provider:  Using our network of LISC and outside experts to help our partner nonprofits  build strong organizations and achieve their mission.      
Where We Work

DC LISC’s service area is the city of Washington, DC.  Today, we target much of our work in four specific neighborhoods:  Parkside-Kenilworth, Congress Heights, Southwest and Ivy City .  We also support specific projects throughout the city that meet our equitable development strategy.

Who We Support
  • Nonprofit providers of community services such as healthcare, childcare, senior, youth, arts, and wellness;
  • Nonprofit housing developers; 
  • Community development corporations;
  • Joint ventures between for profits and nonprofits;
  • Lead nonprofits undertaking comprehensive neighborhood revitalization.
