Wealth is often transferred from one generation to the next, or accumulated through home ownership. But for many, particularly people of color, these modes of wealth accumulation are inaccessible. LISC’s financial stability programs build equity by connecting low- to moderate- income families with the financial and labor market mainstream.
Boston Builds Credit (BBC) is a citywide credit building initiative that seeks to empower Bostonians to build prime credit scores in order to increase their financial stability, build assets, and create wealth. When done citywide, we believe that credit building can be a powerful tool for addressing income inequality and the racial wealth gap.
The Bridges to Career Opportunities program fills in critical education gaps that keep people from good jobs. Students improve their literacy and math skills in the context of the field they're training to enter, and earn the credentials needed to begin careers in growing fields.
FOCs provide employment and career counseling, one-on-one financial coaching, and help building credit, savings, and assets. They also connect clients with income supports such as food stamps, utilities assistance and affordable health insurance.
Our financial stability programs achieve extraordinary outcomes that have been verified by independent reseach.
