LISC Peoria saves Rantoul’s Multicultural Community Center from closure

LISC Peoria extends acquisition financing to child care center serving migrant and seasonal working families

LISC Peoria has extended acquisition financing to Rantoul’s Multicultural Community Center (MCC) to save it from closure.

Located in Champaign County, MCC provides quality childcare and educational services for pre-kindergarten children as well as after school and summer programs for children up to the age of 14.

LISC Peoria is a not-for-profit Community Development Financial Institution, which provides capital to projects in low-income, disadvantaged and underserved communities at affordable rates. LISC Peoria Executive Director, Karen Davis, said MCC is vital to the community because it serves so many families, which are part of the migrant and seasonal working population in Central Illinois. “Martha Gonzalez launched MCC in 2008 as a means to keep a Migrant Head Start Program available in Champaign County after the existing program closed in Hoopeston,” she said. “MCC has grown substantially over the years, employing more than a dozen educators and support staff, and providing more than 120 children and their families with access to quality childcare in an open, diverse, and inclusive environment.”

MCC is housed in the former Officer's Club of the now-decommissioned Chanute Air Force Base.
