We work with neighborhood organizations that undertake neighborhood- and place-based initiatives that improve the quality of life for all residents and allow lower-income communities and communities of color to live and thrive in the District of Columbia.
Our priorities are in supporting strategic investment neighborhoods and equitable development. Working with a range of nonprofits, we use our resources to accomplish projects that benefit lower-income households, communities of color, immigrants, and others who are at risk of being left behind as parts of Washington DC develop further.
The preservation and creation of quality affordable housing is at the core of our work.
LISC takes a holistic approach to improve health in underserved places. We promote and invest in all components of a healthy community – healthy housing, quality food, education, green buildings, job opportunities, and financial stability.
We help to build a local ecosystem that creates more equitable economic opportunities and outcomes for District residents and small businesses.
We engage in creative placemaking as a means to preserve community identity and culture, foster collaboration, activate spaces, and elevate voices typically excluded from planning and development conversations.
We help our nonprofit partners bring new high-quality community facilities, such as healthcare facilities and community spaces, and services into neighborhoods, and help these groups retain a permanent stake in changing communities.
Through targeted grant funding and technical assistance, we invest in our nonprofit partners’ capacity, helping them to become and remain strong and stable neighborhood institutions.
