Leadership & Capacity Building

Our work hinges on the insight, experience and expertise of hundreds of community development groups rebuilding neighborhoods across the country. The better they do their job, the better we can do ours--and the more communities we support together.

So we help them to become more effective change-makers. We do this by providing operating grants and working capital, training programs for staff and leadership at partner groups, and even AmeriCorps members to fill key positions.

“Without LISC’s support, we would not have had the capacity and resources to organize our community around important quality of life issues.”
— Dennis Nordmoe, Urban Neighborhood Initiatives

Each year Detroit LISC honors our network of partners throughout the city by hosting the Detroit Community Development Awards to recognize the achievements of local community development corporations (CDCs) and organizations. We shine a light on partners who are doing important for work Detroit’s communities.

We also partner with other Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) to ensure that more investments, loans, and banking services are directed towards community development programs and projects. The Detroit CDFI Coalition meets every other month to advance development in our neighborhoods and commercial corridors.
