NFL Grassroots

Athletic fields can help transform neighborhoods by offering opportunities for recreation, education and relaxation that contribute to the local quality of life. The NFL Foundation Grassroots Program seeks to redress the shortage of clean, safe and accessible football fields in low- and moderate-income neighborhoods.

Detroit Lions Quarterback Matthew Stafford attended the opening of the field at Lipke Park. He signed footballs and played catch with the local youth football team.
Detroit Edison Public School Academy received a $200,000 grant to build a new field to match their recently built 58,000 square foot High School

Since 1999 LISC and the NFL have supported the construction of nine fields in Detroit with over $1.2M in grants to provide safe recreational opportunities for youth. More than 35,000 young football players and 10,000 youth cheerleaders have benefitted from these investments.
