Kiva's Impact In 2018

Jennifer from Out of the Box Collective recently received a $10,000 interest-free loan through our Kiva program.

LISC LA has capitalized a matching loan fund from Pacific Premier Bank to support Kiva borrowers endorsed by a LISC Kiva Trustee in local jurisdictions, including Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino, and Riverside counties.

Jennifer was a screenwriter for 25 years before starting Out of the Box Collective. She loves to tell stories with words and images and now uses food as a medium for storytelling.

Bringing these food narratives into our customers’ homes motivates me. It’s not just the stories of where the foods are from, or the stories we create with themed meal plans - it’s our customers’ individual stories and the lasting memories they are creating for their children and households, that I love most. This is why we’re changing the name of my company Out of the Box Collective, to Narrative Food. It’s personal, and that’s just how we want it.

The loan will be used to upgrade their website and provide customers with a much smoother interface and a great user experience. With the upgrade, they will also re-brand the company from Out of the Box Collective to Narrative Food.

“With a clearer identity and mission, we hope to drive even more expansion as happy customers spread the word to their friends. If we can increase our sales, we will be closer to building a suitable team to meet the needs of the company so that I, as the founder, can focus less on the day to day minutiae of running this business, and more on building this business and developing the direction we want to take it in” says Jennifer.

Here’s a quick recap of what we’ve been able to accomplish in 2018 with our LISC Kiva partnership:
