Detroit Tour Aims to Leverage Bold Ideas

8.02.2017

LISC and the Greater Milwaukee Committee co-hosted a tour to the City of Detroit, Michigan, this summer. The goal was to explore best practices especially related to commercial corridor development and blight reduction, under the theme of Leveraging Bold Ideas…Leading Big Change.

The tour was an opportunity to cultivate shared learning of promising practices, as well as increase the connectivity of many partners, persons, and political leaders in Milwaukee. Guests visited with Detroit city officials, small business leaders, city financed housing rehab projects, philanthropic leaders, and several catalytic initiatives including Motor City Match.

It’s one thing to hear about the innovative and catalytic change in Detroit, and it’s another thing to actually meet the people and see what’s happening on the ground, said Sakuri Fears, LISC Program Officer for Economic Development, who organized the tour.
