Webinar on Museum / Library Community Engagement

Community initiatives are ambitious undertakings, requiring community leaders to garner support from a broad range of actors.

New research has explored the ways in which two types of community anchors--libraries and museums--have become involved in comprehensive initiatives.

During this webinar, the panelists discussed best practices and strategies that have led to successful collaborations between museums and libraries and the community.

Speakers:

  • Susan Hildreth, the director of the Federal Institute for Museum and Library Services, will lead off the session by framing the issues and discussing the IMLS's role in supporting this work.
  • Chris Walker, LISC Director of Research and Assessment highlighted the major findings of a new report due on library and musuem work in community development, including three categories of involvement and some aspects of a deeper commitment.
  • Chris Seifert of the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh talked about bringing together a number of local stakeholders for creative placemaking efforts on the city's Northside. 
  • Matt Poland of Hartford Public Library discussed his institution's leading role in serving immigrant communities in Hartford.
